Wooden Decking v's Composite Decking
Timber Decking - Softwood and Hardwood Timber
This type of traditional decking adds charm to your garden and encompasses the beauty of nature. Softwood is more affordable for those on a tight budget, but it is more prone to rotting, cracking, and splitting, whereas hardwood is a lot tougher and therefore tends to last a lot longer. With the correct maintenance, hardwood decking can last for around 15 years. Wooden decking is not water-tight and will therefore need to be sealed. It can also become very slippery, so you'll have to clean it once a year.
Wooden decking comes in a wide range of different types of deck boards and can be stained or painted to the colour of your choice.
Composite Decking
Composite or WPC as it is also known is made from a mix of plastic and recycled wood and will last for around 30 years with the correct care. It is very durable and does not expand or contract, and because it's water-resistant it won't rot or warp and will never need sealing, unlike wooden timber boards.
You don’t need to stain or paint composite decking as it comes in a wide range of colours, from white and ivory through to dark red and jet black. Composite decking is around 99% recycled materials making it an environmentally-friendly choice.
